CITY OF MATI, DAVAO ORIENTAL— There seems to be an endless flow of donations for the provincial government-run Davao Oriental Provincial Hospital as many more international humanitarian organizations have continued to give assistance to the hospital among them are modern hospital equipment and medicines intended primarily for the province’s indigent patients who cannot afford the prohibitive cost of medicines and services of the private hospitals.
Just recently, the World Medical Relief Incorporated, a humanitarian group based in the United States of America, have donated various hospital equipment and medicines to the Davao Oriental Provincial Hospital.
A grateful Davao Oriental Governor Corazon Malanyaon says the “endless support” being extended by international humanitarian groups for the province “will surely improve our health services especially for the highly impoverished people.” She says that her administration has given top priority to health care program, allocating a bulk of its annual budget to fund its health care programs, among them the purchase of adequate supply of medicines for the provincial hospital, the ongoing expansion of the provincial hospital and hiring of additional doctors and nurses.
The World Medical Relief, whose professed mission is to “serving the sick and poor locally, nationally and internationally,” says that they will continue to give donations as they were inspired by the dedication of Gov. Malanyaon in pushing for meaningful health care programs especially for the poor people of Davao Oriental. The governor has also sponsored a program that gives free health insurance to indigent families here.
Earlier, another international humanitarian group, Kiwanis International, has also donated several high-tech hospital equipment, supplies and medicines to the provincial hospital.
The donation of high-tech hospital equipment, supplies and medicines will surely boost the operation of the provincial hospital, according to provincial health officer Dr. Resuldo Malintad.
The donated medical supplies are composed of the following: cardiac monitors, needles, syringes and medical equipment such as wheelchairs, surgical instruments, dental chairs, nebulizers, syringe pumps, suction machines, defibrillator, hypothermia machines, sleep amnea machines, ultrasound machines, physician’s chairs, copier machine, operating room sink, ICU beds, digital thermometer, blood pressure monitors, hospital beds, crutches, walkers, canes, hospital mattresses, dialysis machines and two anesthesia machines.
Gov. Malanyaon, however, has thanked the groups of Filipino medical professionals based in the Unites States of America for facilitating the donation. “These selfless Filipino medical doctors in the United States whose heart really bleeds for the poor are the ones who facilitated the donation. May their tribe grow,” says Gov. Malanyaon.
